Its been a torrid year for Manchester United football club following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson. Having spent the best part of a quarter of a century at the top of English football Manchester United now find themselves languishing in seventh with no prospect of Champions League football and only an outside chance of Europa League football. Ryan Giggs has taken over as interim manager until the end of the season after the club sacked David Moyes. Moyes departure was unexpected as Manchester United had appointed him for six years but the season has been so poor that United made the decision to cut ties with the former Everton boss and are now on the lookout for a new manager with Dutch national coach Louis Van Gaal expected to take over the reigns following the world cup. With two games to go Ryan Giggs will be looking to make his case for a spot on the coaching staff under Van Gaal and will hope that the fit again Robin Van Persie can fire United to victory this evening against Hull City. Kagawa, Mata, Wellbeck, Cleverly and Carrick could all be playing for their futures at United so expect plenty of fight tonight as United look to sign off a really poor season with a win at home.
Hull City have had an up and down season but the Tigers will be playing in Europe next season as cup finalists they will qualify for the Europa League due to Arsenal's involvement in the Champions League and Hull are also safe in the knowledge that their Premier League status has been assured. So Steve Bruce's , the former Manchester United player, side can come to Old Trafford and play with some freedom. I'm sure players will be minding themselves a little with the FA Cup final in mind but I still expect a wide open game and I expect Jelavich and Long to cause United plenty of problems at the back. The two January signings have proven to be excellent acquisitions for the Hull City Tigers.
To be honest Manchester United have been impossible to predict this season, the follow up a 4-0 hammering of Norwich with a 0-1 loss at home to Sunderland. Its just impossible to tell which United will show up on any given day but this is why we do this job to try to wade through the unpredictability and try to see some ryhme or reason. I think United will come out here and look to start fast, Manchester United and Ryan Giggs will be looking for a good performance in their last home game of the season to finish on a positive not in what has been a poor season. For this reason I am taking over 1.5 first half goals at 7/5. The odds are attractive and I think Manchester United will want that fast start that the just did not get against Sunderland. Also Hull are more than capable of causing problems for united on the counter attack so all in all I think we see some early goals. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
