The beautiful game shall arrive in Benfica with the first Champions League final to be played between two teams from the same city. Real Madrid will arrive in search of a tenth Champions League title, La Decima ,as it has been nicknamed within the corridors of the Bernebeau. Carlo Ancelotti's side while failing to capture the League title with a couple of stumbles late in the season is packed full of world class talent. Cristiano Ronaldo is the key man for Real Madrid and there is lingering doubts over the fitness of the Portugese international who will be desperate to play in the final in his home country and in the City where he started his professional career with Sporting Club de Portugal. With Ronaldo's fitness a doubt even more pressure will move to Gareth Bale, the young Welshman who broke the transfer world record when moving to Madrid in an £80million move last summer. Bale, Modric, Di Maria and Benzema will be the keys to opening an Athletico Madrid defence that was the best in La Liga this season and the best by a long way in the Champions League all season. Can Ronaldo, Bale and Co overcome Diego Simeone's disciplined side and lift the tenth Champions League title for Real Madrid or will they fall short at the final hurdle?
Athletico Madrid will come into this game as a huge underdog, talisman and top scorer Diego Costa looks set to miss the final through injury having hobbled off in the last league game against Barcelona. Diego Simeone manager of Atheltico Madrid has done a fabulous job with the Rojiblanco's this season and Athletico won the League the hard way, going to the Nou Camp and getting a draw in the final game to win the title. Adrian, Koke, Diego Costa, Turan, David Villa and Diego have lit up the league with some terrific football this season. In Stamford Bridge in the semi final, Athletico Madrid played Chelsea off the field in one of the most impressive displays this season. Injuries though have raised their ugly heads and there is a chance that Turan and Diego Costa will miss the final on Saturday evening although early reports suggest Turan will be fit enough to start.
The Champions League Final is the jewel in the crown of the domestic season in Europe, a first for the competition will see two teams from Madrid contest the final. The game is poised to be a terrific encounter with Real Madrid set to dominate possession with their star studded midfield and top three of Benzema, Ronaldo and Bale and Atheltico to play their usual counter attacking game. For me Diego Simeone has perfected a tactic to play against the possession football of Real Madrid and Barcelona, I think that this game should be a coinflip. Given that I have to take Athletico Madrid on the handicap at evens. I think we probably see extra time and maybe even penalties here. Either way I am taking the underdogs on the handicap and will spread a little on the moneyline for the occasion that is in it! Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
