Brazil looks to book their ticket to the knockout round with a victory in their final group stage match on Monday against Cameroon.
The Brazilians were the consensual favourite to not only coast through the group stage but were expected to win the entire tournament on home soil and while that is still very much a distinct possibility, they haven’t played like the side many expected to see. Brazil barely got through Croatia in their tournament opener and were held without a goal in their second contest against Mexico and while they are facing the group whipping posts in Cameroon in this one they are still far from locking up a spot in the round of 16. Brazil are a very solid squad and by right should be considered a favourite to win the whole tournament but to be honest I think the home field advantage is the biggest factor for them as I don’t see them being much better than a number of other contending nations. Brazil are due for a game where they absolute dominate and what better way to do so than against a Cameroon side who was waxed 4-0 by Croatia in their last outing. Neymar has tallied two markers through two games but people are expecting more of the Brazilian superstar and this could be the stage where he makes his mark.

Cameroon crew the short straw as a result of their qualifying efforts and were thrown into a group with world powers in Brazil, Mexico, and Croatia and with the other three nations taking it to each other it is easy to understand why they have used Cameroon to pad their stats. The African side is usually pretty deep and fare well in continental play but it is clear that this edition of the Cameroon national squad is simply outclassed by its opponents and while they’re a proud nation I don’t see any reason for them to cheer today. The value in this game certainly sides with Cameroon and while a three goal margin is sometimes ludicrous to gamble on I think it is worth the play here as Brazil desperately need a victory to ensure they move on to the round of 16 and without a solid effort on their resume so far in this tournament I think they make a statement heading into the knockout stage that they’re a team to be reckoned with.
