Japan looks to book their ticket to the round of 16 with a victory over Colombia while the South American side can put a stamp on Group C with their third straight win.
The Japanese have just a single point through their first two contests but with the way they have been playing in the offensive zone it is hard to believe that they don’t have more. Japan has been one of the most active teams in terms of shots on target in the entire World Cup but unfortunately for them only one ball has crossed the touch line and as such they find themselves in a heap of trouble. Japan need a victory and an Ivory Coast loss to advance and while it isn’t out of the realm of possibility they have to take down a Colombian side riddled with confidence and one that has defeated both Greece and the Ivory Coast so far. Japan deserved a better fate against the Greeks but if they keep up their offensive pressure against a Colombian side that has already wrapped up the group they should be able to do their part and at least say they gave themselves the best chance at advancing.

Colombia looked brilliant in their tournament opening win over Greece and looked as though they were in the driver’s seat against Ivory Coast and while they still managed to get the win I think it was the African side who played the better match. Colombia have been playing some of the world’s best football heading into this tournament and while they are without arguably their best player for the duration of the Cup it hasn’t mattered to date. I am a little nervous if Colombia finds themselves down in a game as they haven’t had to rally yet and with some question marks up front I feel like that pressure could get to them but we don’t have to worry about that until the knockout stage. While I am convinced that the Ivory Coast will do enough to secure their berth into the round of 16 I think Japan will do enough here and I think Colombia suffers their first defeat.
