France and Ecuador square off in Group E action with the victor of this match taking top spot and advancing to the round of 16.
France has pieced together a very impressive World Cup tournament so far as they have won back to back contests in convincing fashion as they have outscored Honduras and Switzerland by an 8-2 margin with the two conceded coming against the Swiss in garbage time. France had a disastrous 2010 World Cup in South Africa as a number of players boycotted and as such their on-field product was abysmal but they have responded in a huge way here in Brazil and with a win or a draw they can advance to the next round as group winners. Karim Benzema has been one of the best players at this tournament and is in the running for the Golden Boot award but he hasn’t done it alone as the likes of Mathieu Valbuena, Olivier Giroud, and Paul Pogba have all been strong and if France can continue their offensive tear there will be very few teams who can stop them. France needed a second leg victory over Ukraine just to qualify for this tournament but now that they are here they’re playing with purpose and should make another statement here against Ecuador.

Ecuador will look to become the sixth South American nation to advance to the round of 16 joining Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia and Argentina which would make it a clean sweep for the football crazed continent but they will be in tough against a French side looking to reclaim world football dominance. Ecuador stumbled late in their tournament opener against the Swiss but rebounded against Honduras and can actually finish atop the group with a win over France which would likely avoid Argentina in the next round while there is still a lot to be determined in both groups. Ecuador can advance with a draw in this spot but would need the Swiss to lose or draw with Honduras which is not to be expected so a victory would make things certain but if they come out against France the way they did against the Swiss they could fall out of the picture in a hurry. I can very well see this game ending in a draw as France could be in for a letdown here after two brilliant games thus far and while it is tempting to take the better team at a respectable price I will take a shot on the draw here as I think France will sit back a bit after gaining a lead and will cruise into the next round in first place without injury or insult.
