Switzerland and Honduras will meet in a Wednesday afternoon World Cup match that could be the last game for both teams.
Switzerland beat Ecuador in its opening match, but was thumped by France, 5-2, in a match that wasn’t even that close. Despite controlling the ball 57 percent of the match, Switzerland allowed 22 shots overall and 16 shots on goal, as the Frenchmen put on a clinic for 90-plus minutes. Steve von Bergen has been sent home due to suffering an injury to his eye in the last match. Even with the crushing defeat, Blerim Dzemaili and Granit Xhaka admitted that the team still believes it has a good shot to advance to the next round and has positive thoughts. Switzerland will have to be a lot more aggressive offensively like it was in its first match and get off to a better start.

Honduras is playing spoiler at this point in the tournament after losing its first two matches. Honduras did give a better performance against Ecuador than it did in its blowout loss to France, but couldn’t find the net enough despite getting nine shots on goal. Honduras is playing a physical style of soccer that includes 29 fouls in their first two matches, but they aren’t getting great goaltending considering five of 15 shots on goal have found the net. This may be the game where Boniek Garcia has a big performance for his team.
There’s really no value taking Switzerland to win give the insane juice you’d have to pay. That’s why I’m taking the over in this matchup.
Honduras should be able to score a goal due to its pride and wanting to end the World Cup on a high note, but you have to believe Switzerland will come out focused and with a lot more energy than it did in its last match.
Expect a score like 3-1, making the over the play.
