Algeria can clinch a spot in the World Cup knockout stages with a win over Russia on Thursday afternoon.
Algeria bounced back from its loss to Belgium with a dominating 4-2 win over Korea Republic. Algeria was constantly on the attack, scored two goals within two minutes and came away with 15 shots and eight shots on goal. Vahid Halilhodzic made some adjustments to his lineup and wanted to see nonstop pressure offensively, putting the opponent’s defense on its heels. It certainly worked, and you may see a similar lineup in this match with guys such as Abdelmoumene Djabou, Yacine Brahimi and Islam Slimani starting the match. One thing for sure is that Algeria will continue attacking offensively in hopes of masking its defensive issues.

Russia gives itself a chance of advancing with a win, as it suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Belgium in its second match. Russia played a solid game on both ends of the field, but allowed a late goal to Divock Origi, removing any chance for the Russians to be rewarded for their efforts. Manager Fabio Capello, who admitted that the result was unfair after the match, now he must get his players ready for this match and try to forget what happened a few days ago. No easy task. Despite playing well, this is a Russian team that’s scored only one goal in the tournament. Alexander Kerzhakov has that one goal, and he has to do more in order to give Russia a fighting chance.
Honestly, there’s wonderful value in taking Algeria to win this match. Russia struggles offensively and may have trouble keeping up if Algeria remains in attack mode for 90 minutes. You also have to worry about Russia’s mindset after just having its heart ripped out by Belgium.
This game could go either way, but give me the team that doesn’t let up and can put the ball in the net multiple times.
