Ghana and Portugal will play a must-win World Cup match on Thursday afternoon.
Ghana has been one of the quiet surprise teams of the World Cup, losing to the United States in the final minutes and forcing a draw against Germany. Ghana will have a chance to advance to the next round with a win and some help. Ghana has been one of the most aggressive offensive teams in the tournament, getting a combined 41 shots off in its first two matches and 18 shots on goal. Asamoah Gyan has lived up to the hype with a goal and an assist thus far. Harrison Afful is also a dangerous young player who nearly ended the Germany match with a win for Ghana. If anything, Ghana is one of the more fun teams to watch in the tournament.

Portugal somehow avoided elimination with a last-second goal from Silvestre Varela to force a draw against the United States. Like Ghana, it’ll take a win here to have any shot of moving onto the next round. Even with a hobbled Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal remains an aggressive team that can push the pace from defense to offense quicker than any team in the tournament. Portugal got nine shots on goal and controlled the ball for 52 percent of the match. Portugal now has 34 overall shots in its first two matches. With Portugal’s back to the wall again, it will need a big performance from Pepe, who returns from suspension after sitting out the game against USA.
I have no idea how this game is going to end, but I do know there are going to be plenty of scoring chances. These two teams have combined for 75 shots in their first two matches, which increases our chances of seeing an over take place.
Expect a highly entertaining game with a lot of scoring.
