Portugal and Ghana look to keep their World Cup dreams intact as the two square off for their final group stage action.
Portugal kept their slim World Cup dreams alive with a last second header that knotted the game up at two goals apiece with the United States and while things look very bleak they still have a shot at getting through to the round of 16. Portugal were waxed by the Germans in their tournament opener and looked as though they were going to play their way out of the tournament with a loss to the Americans but a brilliant cross from Cristiano Ronaldo that was headed past US keeper Tim Howard proved to be the final marker and making this a very exciting day for world football. Germany and the US are in the driver’s seat and if the two sides play to a draw than this game won’t matter as those sides will both advance but if one team wins than it opens up a ton of possibilities for both Portugal and Ghana. Pepe makes his return to the team after being suspended for a headbutt on Thomas Muller in the tournament opener and his presence will certainly be felt at the back end against a very solid Ghanaian side.

Ghana responded with a gutsy effort against Germany in their second game after getting their hearts broken in the final minutes against the US in their tournament opener in a match they dominated and deserved a least a point from. Ghana are in tough as they’ll need a victory against Portugal and have the goal differential swing in their favour if they’re to advance to the round of 16 but this side could very well have six points as they have played some great football but unfortunately haven’t produced the expected results. While Portugal has the star power in the form of Ronaldo they have been very average at best in this tournament and it is a long shot for them to even come close to advancing and I think that desperation might seep in to this contest. I like the way the Black Stars play and to me they’re the deeper side with a better shot at qualifying and I think they get the victory here.
