Brazil and Chile square off in the first of two all-South American round of 16 match ups with the victor meeting the winner of the Colombia-Uruguay bout.
The Brazilians did what was expected of them in the group stage of this World Cup as they coasted through Group A with two wins and a draw and have set up a knockout stage matchup against the Chileans who finished in second spot in their group behind the Dutch. Brazil have often been considered the favourite to win this tournament not only due to their team skill but because they’re on home soil and the track record of South American teams doing well on their home continent is no secret as five of the six from the region qualified for the round of 16. Neymar has been the talk of the tournament for Brazil as he has put the team on his back through the first three contests and it is no secret that this team will go as far as he can take them which is a huge weight on the shoulders of the 22 year old. Brazil looked poised in their victory over Cameroon which sealed their spot atop the group but they have also looked mediocre at times in this tournament and will need to turn things on from here on out.

Chile has been considered a dark horse pick over the last couple of years as they fared well at the Copa America tournament and now on the world stage they outlasted the likes of Spain and Australia to qualify behind the Dutch. Chile are a very athletic team that thrives on the counter attack and will see the return of Alexis Sanchez in this match but they know how steep the mountain is here as Brazil are a world class side with a lot going in their favour in this game. Before the tournament started I saw Chile as a team that could advance past their tough group and while they have looked very strong at times I think this is a case of a bad matchup for the Chileans as Brazil will be playing with a ton of confidence and purpose. While I don’t see Brazil winning this tournament, in fact I have them losing in the next round to Colombia I think they will feed off the crowd for at least one more game and I expect another solid outing from Neymar who will sneak the Brazilians into the quarters.
