I completely underestimated Mexico from the outset of this tournament but after game one I could see that Herrera had his team playing for each other and there is no doubt that there is great unity within this squad. However I still have reservations about the starting line up, leaving a striker of Javier Hernandez ability on the bench and starting both Dos Santos and Peralta seems crazy to me but to be fair the team has qualified through a tough group and played well. Hernandez may well be the key if Mexico are to beat the Netherlands though he has been very impressive in each of the games he has appeared and scored the goal that sealed it against Croatia. With Marquez leading by example from the back and Ochoa manning the goals this wont be easy for the Netherlands especially with the Mexicans having huge support in Brazil.
For me the most impressive team of the tournament so far has been the Netherlands. They destroyed Spain, beat Australia after making adjustments and closed out the group with a good win against Chile. With Arjen Robben, Robin Van Persie and WEsley Snejder there is so much experience and talent that its hard not to really fancy the dutch to go a long long way here. Louis Van Gaal has shown an ability to tweak both formations and personnell when needed and there appears to be harmony among this group of players. With a good mix of youth and experience this is a well balanced squad and with Robben and Van Persie they have two genuine superstars in their prime.
I'm a big fan of this dutch team, I took them to win the Group even with Spain and Chile there and I have to say I still like them to go along long way here. I am taking the Netherlands to win here in what should be a good game, I cant see there being much between the teams a I do think the knockout stages will see less goals and tighter games with more tension. But here I see the Netherlands having too much fire power for the Mexicans. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
