The Netherlands and Brazil will play in the 2014 World Cup third place match on Saturday afternoon on ESPN.

Brazil was simply embarrassed in its semifinal match against Germany, allowing five goals in the first half and losing, 7-1. It was such a blowout, but Brazil did control the ball for 51 percent of the match and got 13 shots on goal, which was one more than Germany. Brazil won’t have Neymar back for this match, who is out with a back injury, but captain Thiago Silva will return after sitting out the semifinal match with two yellow cards. It’s going to be interesting to see how Brazil responds in this match, as it certainly what the host country was anticipating. However, I’m sure the fans would like for their team to end this World Cup on a positive note.

2014 FIFA World Cup: Netherlands vs. Brazil Pick, Odds, Prediction - 7/12/14

Witters Sport-USA TODAY Sports

The Netherlands lost a heartbreaker against Argentina, a match that went into penalty kicks with a score of 0-0. Despite the score and the fact the Netherlands controlled the ball for 53 percent of the time, they got only three shots on goal. The Netherlands couldn’t get anything going offensively and have now been held scoreless in their last two matches in regulation. The lack of offense for the Netherlands has to be worrisome, but the defense and goalie Jasper Cillessen has allowed just one goal in their last four matches. That great defense must continue, but of course it should be a lot easier considering Brazil is without its best player.

Despite how poorly Brazil played the last time we saw them take the field, it’s impossible to believe that the home team is going to lose back-to-back matches. The crowd should be behind Brazil more than ever and the team should be eager to get that poor taste out of their mouth.

This game could go either way, but I like Brazil to end things on a positive note and get the victory.
