As a team Monaco were rocked by the departures of star men James Rodriguez and Radamal Falcao, that type of loss is impossible to replace but some have forgotten that this is still a star studded team with Mouthino, Berbatov, Germain, Traore and Abdennour. Its a tough ask for Monaco to deliver in their first year in the Champions League but I think that they will aquit themselves well in Europe without making it past the quarter finals. Personally I think their home form must be almost perfect if they are to qualify from this group which will be a tough ask given the quality of teams. Dimitar Berbatov and Germain will carry the burden of goalscoring and the old head Carvalyo will be the rock at the back alongside summer signing Abdennour.
The Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt has to be happy with his sides start to the season especially their victory away against a new look Borussia Dortmund. With Stefan Kiebling on fire up front and strength in depth on the bench with Son there to come in this is a good solid Leverkusen team. Bender will run the midfield alongside Castro and the width will be provided by the wing backs in particular Jedvaj who at 18 has shown remarkable maturity and has already netted twice this season from wingback.
The odds here are skewed in my opinion I dont think Leverkusen should be such heavy favourites. Yes Monaco have lost players and have had a rough start to the season but they are still at home and have only lost twice at home in the last 30 games. I think Berbatov is well capable of leading the line for Monaco and causing Leverkusen problems at the back. I'm going to take the draw here, I think Monaco may not have enough to cause the upset but I think they will have enough to get something from the game. Follow me on twitter@antonpippo
