A mini crisis is developing in Madrid, Real Madrid have started the season poorly, lost a derby game to Atheltico on Saturday and are now six points behind Barcelona only three games into the new season. Cristiano Ronaldo is being linked with a move away(back to Manchester United) and all in all things seem a little unsettled. The sale of Alonso and Di Maria unbalanced the side and even the additions of Rodriguez, Hernandez and Kroos can not hide the fact that all is not well at the Bernebeau. With that said Carlo Ancelotti has a squad of superstars, Gareth Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo and the aformentioned additions are top top players and will when gelling win many many games. It could all start to click tonight at the Bernebeau as they face a tough swiss team in Basel. If Madrid do not get off the mark early though the crowd in the Bernebeau may start to turn on the Galacticos.
Basel must come into this game as a shot to nothing, there is no way Paulo Saousa's men are supposed to come away with anything from this game and so can play like that. With Strellar up top firing in the goals and Frei linking the play through the middle the Swiss side will have some chances on the counter. Walter Samuel will return to Real Madrid a decade after leaving to go to Inter Milan, Samuel may not be as good as he was but he was still a big addition in the summer on a free transfer and will no doubt play a key part in this game if Basel are to keep this one close.
No matter how I look at this one I cant see anything other than a Real Madrid victory and a big one at that. I think the pressure is well and truly on now and Ancelotti and his team must respond to the poor results thus far in the league with a big win here in Europe. Look for Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema to show no mercy as they put Basel to the sword. Take Real Madrid -2 on the handicap and hopefully we see the European Champions at their best.
