Without a doubt the game of the week in Serie A this weekend is Napoli v Roma and it kicks off at 2 pm on saturday. A travesty for football fans who work Saturday but the perfect game to fill the gap between Newcastle v Liverpool and Bayern vs Borussia. Napoli have played well at home recently scoring six in their last home outing against Hellas Verona with Hamsik netting a couple , a hattrick from Higuain and a single goal from top scorer Callejon. Rafa Benitez has struggled to get his side balanced but in the last month or so we have seen things turn around. After a poor start and an exit from the Champions League Napoli have started to climb the table and a win tomorrow would put them close to if not in the Champions League spots. The signing of Callejon last year looks inspired right now as the former Real Madrid starlet is lighting up the league with seven goals in nine games, while his strike partner Higuan has struggled this season he did hit a hat trick last weekend and will be looking for more of the same with his confidence back on the up.
Roma went joint top of the table midweek when they won and Juventus suffered a shock defeat to Genoa. While Roma are going through a tough patch in their schedule it has to be said that this will benefit the capital side later on in the year. Joint top having played Juventus, Sampdoria and Napoli within the space of four weeks would be a major accomplishment for Raul Garcia's men but it is not beyond the realms of possibility. Destro has been the main man in the league and will continue to be but will have to share the spotlight with Totti when the legend starts for Roma. With Gervinho, Ljajic , Iturbe and Pjanic all vying for a starting spot there is a nice quality strength in depth to Roma this year that they simply did not have last year.
This is Italian football which is historically all about defending but these two teams look to have their best players in offence. Both managers would pride themselves on being tough to beat and both defences are rock solid but with this much attacking talent on display I cant help but think this one will end up in the overs bracket. That said there is not much value in that overs bet. Instead I am going to take the draw here, I think Roma are one of the best organised teams in football and while Napoli have plenty of attacking talent I think they will struggle to break down Roma tomorrow.
