Monday night football from Villa Park as Southampton travel to take on Aston Villa. Southampton have won five in a row in all competitions and eleven of their last twelve. Ronald Koeman came in as manager during the summer to a team that was supposed to struggle for the entire year. Instead Southampton have proved to be the biggest challenger for a Chelsea team that has started to run away from the pack. Pelle the forward brought in from the dutch league has been sensational, as has the brilliant Morgan Sneiderlein who was looking for a move pre season but surely has to be impressed with how this side has performed all season. Victor Wanyama has added a goal scoring threat to his package as the former Celtic man has been terrific. Southampton have won four of five away from home can they continue their hot form against Aston Villa?
A struggling Aston Villa take to the field on Monday night after losing four of their last five. Paul Lambert will be hoping that Villa can be inspired at home, in the last game at home Villa were leading 1-0 until a crazy moment where Benteke was sent off, a poor decision by the referee but stupid on Benteke's part as well. For his penance Benteke will miss this and one more game. In that 2-1 loss to Tottenham though Villa were the better team until the sending off. This Monday night game could be a huge on for Aston Villa as they sit just one point above the relegation zone and another loss could detremental to the Villa teams confidence.
After studying this all weekend I have come to the conclusion that Southampton is the value play here for a couple of reasons. If this was Manchester City or Chelsea against Aston Villa they away team would be 4/9 so Southampton playing as well if not better than both of the aformentioned are 3/4 the value is there so we have to take it, remember this is a team that has won 5 in a row playing against a Villa team that has lost four of five and are without their talisman Benteke!
