Chelsea travel north to take on Newcastle United in St James Park. The Blues are coming off an impressive three nil win over Tottenham Hotspur in midweek action with Hazard, Drogba and Remy finding the net. It appeared that Chelsea did not even miss suspended top scorer Diego Costa but he will more than likely return to Jose Mourhino's starting line up for Saturday's early game. With a well balanced squad Chelsea have been terrific this season and have only dropped six points, all have been dropped away from home though so perhaps this represents an opportunity for a Newcastle team who are actually in really good form.
Newcastle had won six in a row before losing to West Ham last weekend but alot of that had to do with injuries suffered and even at that Newcastle were barely beaten 1-0. They followed up that with a 1-1 at Burnley which has been a surpringly tough place for teams to go this season. With Perez and Cisse up front and a strong midfield with Tiote, Abeid and Ameobi this is a dogged Newcastle side who will give their all against Chelsea. In addition Newcastle have actually done well against Chelsea at home the last couple of years winning two of the last three including a thrilling 3-2 victory last season. The Magpies under Pardew have had a rough run of it injury's wise but have a team capable of springing a surprise in the early kickoff on Saturday.
I am taking both teams to score here, I think Newcastle will raise their own game to match the runaway league leaders and the St James Park faithful will be noisy , as always. St James Park is one of the few grounds in the Premier League with genuine atmosphere and the home crowd are passionate and will get right behind their side tomorrow. Could this be a shock on the cards and Chelsea's first defeat? Probably not , Mourhino is the ultimate tactitician but there are some things you cant plan for, cold weather, passionate home crowd and a fired up home side looking to "prove" something against the runaway league leaders.. it has happened before you know! Take Newcastle +1 just in case!
