Simple scenario for Liverpool, win or your out as they host Basel in Anfield on Tuesday evening. Brendand Rodgers must find an offensive spark from somewhere within his squad especially with Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli injured. Conventional wisdom would say start Rickie Lambert starts with Raheem sterling and Stephen Gerrard just behind him but I have a feeling that Rodgers might go with Sterling through the center and play five in midfield. Liverpool have been really struggling at home of late, failing to register a shot on target in the first half of their last three home games. Its an incredible statistic considering the brilliant form Liverpool had last year at home, the loss of Luis Suarez has ripped the heart and ability out of this team and at the moment they look no better than a mid table side. A win tomorrow in Anfield though on a special European night might just ignite their season and with a weekend fixture away to Manchester United on the horizon it is a massive weekend for the red half of Liverpool.
Basel themselves know that a draw is enough for qualification when they travel into England on Monday morning. This is going to be a huge test for Basel who have lost both of their away games in the group, had they not lost that game to Ludogrets qualification would have already been sewn up but instead they must get something from this game to qualify. Another strong domestic season for Paulo Sousa's side as they are already eight points clear but qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League is the real barometer test for success for the swiss champions. Basel were excellent in their last outing against Real Madrid and easily could have come away with something from the game. With Strellar, Gashi and Embolo Basel possess genuine threats up front , something that Liverpool are struggling for.
At the moment I am in two minds here. I want to pick Liverpool to win this one, I really do I have been to Anfield on European nights and it is a special place that could inspire the most average of players on nights like tomorrow. You wont find more passionate fans than Liverpool fans and Anfield will be rocking tomorrow night. Stephen Gerrard is a big game player and tomorrow is a big game, the Liverpool captain has done it for years but his legs have started to wain this year. With that said, I am going to take Liverpool to get the win. I just cant see Liverpool not performing in Anfield tomorrow.
