Aston Villa play host to Sunderland at Villa Park on Sunday with both teams looking to bounce back from defeats on Boxing Day. Sunderland's loss to Hull was particularly poor and the home crowd ended up booing their team off the field as Sunderland took the lead and went on to lose 3-1. Gus Poyet's team was dreadful defensively and although they created chances up front they failed to take them. Adam Johnson was Sunderlands best player and along with his goals should have been awarded a penalty at the start of the second half. Poyet will look for more from Wickham and Fletchers up front. Both have looked likely recently though and boxing day was a big disappointment for the black cats fans.
Aston Villa went to Swansea on boxing day and were very unlucky to come away with a loss. Paul Lambert's side were excellent defensively but just couldnt break down Swansea. Christian Benteke, Nzogbia and Agbonlahor are the key three going forward. Villa have a strong back four with Vlaar and Clarke ahead of a really good keeper in Brad Guzan. Villa Park will be buzzing tomorrow and rightly so as the home team are unbeaten in their last three home games and have moved up to thirteenth in the league table. A win here could take Villa into the top half if results go their way. Quite the turn around for the Villans who were relegation threatened for the last few weeks.
This one should be a really intriguing game. I think both teams look decent going forward and while Villa were impressive defensively against Swansea they have shown some tendencies to make mistakes and give away soft goals this season. With that said I am going to take both teams to score here. I think Benteke,Agbonlahor, Fletcher and Wickham will fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet tomorrow and I see this one ending up 2-1.
