Aston Villa take on managerless Crystal Palace on New Years Day with both teams in need of a win. Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last four home games and will be hoping to continue that trend against a Crystal Palace team that have only won one away game all season. Christian Benteke and Gabby Agbonlahor will be key figures for Villa as they look to get a win that could move them into the top half of the league table. Paul Lambert will definitely be talking to his team about discipline before this game as they have had a man sent off in three of their last four games. That type of indiscipline will lead to losses as it did against West Brom in a game that Aston Villa definitely could have won if they had a full complement of players for the 90 minutes.

With the sacking of Neil Warnock Crystal Palace became the first team of the season to get rid of their manager, with Alan Pardew all but guaranteed to take over before the game on New Years day. Palace have not won a game since beating Liverpool in November but in the seven games since Palace have had four draws and three losses. Palace's main problems have been scoring goals and they have only managed four goals in their last seven games. Crystal Palace may receive a lift from having a new manager but Pardew will hardly have any time to even get to know his squad before this game on Thursday so I dont expect too much change in the team line up. Jedinak, Zaha and Campbell will be the key men for Palace and this is a tough ask against a good defence.

Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace 01/01/2015 Premier League Preview, Odds and Prediction

With two teams that dont score much the unders looks a solid play here. Eight of the last nine Aston Villa games have gone under. Five of the last seven Crystal Palace games have gone under. We have two solid defences facing off here and two offences that have struggled to score. At evens the unders looks a value play. I will have a play on the sides on the sportschatplace app and in the premium area.
