On paper this one looks a mismatch as Manchester City play host to Sunderland at the Ethiad. Manchester City though threw away a 2-0 lead against Burnley on Sunday to draw the game 2-2. That was probably the biggest shock of the festive period and showed that even the best of teams are capable of slip ups. WIth Manchester City going through something of an injury crisis the team is missin Aguero, Dzeko and Jovetich leaving no fit strikers in the squad. David Silva has stepped up scoring in the last three games, Ya Ya Toure has also been brilliant during this time. Jovetich was fit enough to come on Sunday for thirty minutes but is obviously not fit. Manchester City will be looking to get the win here and put pressure on Chelsea who dont play until 17.30 on Thursday.
Sunderland have a nice little run going in away fixtures, unbeaten in their last five. Gus Poyet's team have not lost an away game since losing 8-0 to Southampton. There is no doubting that fixture is going to go down as one of the worst performances of all these players lives but they have bounced back well. With John O'Shea and Wes Brown forming a very solid defensive partnership in front of ex Manchester City goalkeeper Pantilimon this could be a tough game for Manchester City. I like the lookof how Poyet has been setting his team up with five in the midfield , Cattermole sitting deep and in front of the back four. Up front in Fletcher an Wickham Sunderland have a couple of players capable of taking chances if they come their way and ex Manchester City winger Adam Johnson has been brilliant for Sunderland in recent weeks.
On paper this looks a guaranteed home win and after the collapse by City at the weekend I am sure Manuel Pelligrini's side will be very focused. But giving Sunderland a two goal head start looks a lot to me and I am willing to roll with the visitors on the handicap. Not a huge amount of value in the markets here having lookat them but I think Sunderland can keep this one tight and interesting.
