One of the better clashes in the Copa Del Rey last sixteen will see Valencia host Espanyol at Mestalla. Valencia come into this game off the back of a huge win over Real Madrid. One in which they were full value for the win. Defending tenatiously Valencia held out agaisnt wave after wave of Real Madrid attacks. WIth a misfiring attack it took two defenders to get the goals though and that would be the only criticism I have of Valencia. Negredo, Piatti and alcacer simply have to contribute more goals to the cause. Negredo since moving from Manchester City on Loan has managed only one goal. For a top class striker that is not enough and I am sure Valencia expect more from their center forward.
With Espanyol coming into this one in decent form with three wins in their last four one could be forgiven for thinking that this will be a good open game. But on closer expection, Espanyol have only won one away game all season and faced with a trip to Valencia, which is one of the toughest away grounds in Spain. Well we cant really hold out much hope can we? Espanyol though do have a trio of strikers in Caicedo, Stuani and Garcia that are more than capable of causing trouble for defences on their day but I am just not so sure Wednesday is going to be their day.
Tough ask her for Espanyol, Valencia will look at this as a competition they can win and given their confidence boosting 2-1 win over Real Madrid last weekend I think Valencia will roll again here.
