With Group C balanced on a knife edge ~South Africa and Ghana both know that a win will more than likely take them through to the knockout stages although South Africa will need Senegal to beat Algeria to ensure that they make it. South Africa have struggled in this competition with a young side that lacks the experience of previous years and with no reall stand out star players it is all about the team ethic right now with South Africa. Manyisa and Phala the two wingers have been South Africa's best players and both have found the net in the competition but their lack of productivity from the wing position is a worry. Genk's Ngconga is probably the best known player in the South African squad but a s a right back he is dependent on the team creating overlaps to be an effective threat, something Phala has been capable of but also something that hasn't happened enough.
Ghana could have been stuck on one point after two games only for the nintieth minute goal by Asamoah Gyan. Avram Grants side were just about the better team in the game against Algeria but they must keep their concentration here and get a win that guarantees them a place in the knockout stages. With a bundle of talent in the squad it would be a shame if Ghana again underperformed at this tournament. The Ayew brothers have somewhat flattered to decieve here with the Lorient and Marseille strikers just not able to provide the goals that Ghana desperately need to pull away from teams. Against Senegal in particular Andre Ayew was guilty of some terrible play and the introduction of Gyan in the second game helped the balance of the side. While Ghana may not have enough defensively to be one of the favourites for the competiton they do have some explosive attacking players and if former Chelsea Manager Avram Grant can get the balance right we could see Ghana push on here.
I am going to take both teams to score here. South Africa have looked defensively weak in both games thus far but they have shown promise going forward and while Ghana have struggled at times they have managed to score in both games thus far. Both teams to score seems like the best value to me.
