Big weekend for Arsenal as they travel north to take on Newcastle United in St James Park. The Gunners know their main rivals for Champions League football Manchester United and Liverpool will face off in Liverpool on Sunday, so Arsenal's game on Saturday is a great chance to open up a gap against their opponents. After a disappointing exit from the Champions League Arsene Wenger will be keen for his side to push on in the league and finish as high as possible if not challenging Chelsea for the title. Arsenal were excellent midweek against Monaco and truly deserved their 2-0 win if it had not been for their disasterous home tie against the french then Arsenal would be in the last eight. As it is though they will be focused on getting a result here and will look to Giroud, Sanchez, Ozil and Cazorla to lead them there. Ozil has been terrific since returning from injury and it has coincided with Arsenal's thirteen wins in their last fifteen games.
Newcastle are a team in trouble, they have lost three of their last five and nine of their last fifteen overall. Luckily the magpies have enough points to keep them safe but John Carver's time in charge looks like it will come to an end when the season ends. Carver has not been helped by a huge amount of injuries and two additional suspensions to their two best players in Colocinni and Cisse. With leaders missing at the back and up front I just cant see how Newcastle are going to stay in this game. The only thing that Newcastle have going for them is the terrific St James Park crowd. If any home crowd could keep their team inspired it is the Geordies.
I really hate taking short priced away teams and therefore I'm not going to take Arsenal here. Newcastle were really good defensively against Manchester United, Stoke and Aston Villa in their last three home games. I think Newcastle will frustrate Arsenal here for an hour or so before coming undone but the unders could be the shout in terms of value. While most are expecting Arsenal to win comfortably and I do think they will win as well I think this will be more of a struggle than the general media. Taking the unders here, the last three Newcastle home games have gone under the mark
