New Zealand and Netherlands play Saturday night in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.
New Zealand competes in its third straight World Cup after dominating the Oceania Football Confederation. New Zealand is an athletic team that likes to play a possession game and control the ball. New Zealand has also proven its ability to play at different paces at can flip the side of the field in a hurry. The Football Ferns are likely only going to go as far as Amber Hearn carries them, a 30-year-old who took home the Golden Boot at the 2014 OFC Women's Nations Cup with seven goals. Hearn can takeover a game by herself if you let her. The question for New Zealand is the lack of overall firepower and the question of confidence this team may have going into the tournament. New Zealand is just 0-1-8 in its last three World Cups and has just four players that are 28 years old or older.

Netherlands makes its World Cup debut and hopes to be the surprise team in Group A. Netherlands is a young, athletic team that has just three players 30 years old or older. Netherlands has several explosive players who can really dominate offensively and put goals on the board quickly. The main player to watch for the Netherlands is Vivianne Miedema, who scored 16 goals in qualifying and is just 18 years old. Manon Melis brings the experience and 54 national goals to the table. Of course, the question with the Netherlands is a lack of experience on the big stage and whether the lights may be too bright this early in the process. Still, Netherlands is an exciting team that has a ton of potential to make a sneaky run this tournament.
This should be a fun game between two teams that are quite young and looking to make a statement.
However, I really like Netherlands potential in this tournament and think it could be the surprise team that makes a fairly deep run. For the cheap price, I’m going with the Netherlands in an outright victory.
