Jamaica and Uruguay play Saturday afternoon in the 2015 Copa America in Northern Chile.
Jamaica should have a point to prove as it participates in its first ever Copa America tournament. While short on experience in that department, Jamaica shouldn’t be taken lightly, as this is a team that’s won four of the last nine Caribbean Cups. Jamaica will be led by Rodolph Austin, who is a physical midfielder and helps anchor the defense. Darren Mattocks helps on the offensive end, as he’s really shined for the Vancouver Whitecaps and has the speed to stretch a defense. Jamaica doesn’t have a ton of proven players but does enough athleticism to make plays if given the chance in the open field. Still, overall, Jamaica doesn’t have a ton of international success and anything positive to come out of this tournament should be considered an accomplishment.

Uruguay is the defending Copa America champions but enters this year with a different squad. Luis Suarez is still suspended for his World Cup incident and Diego Forlan retired from international play in March. Edinson Cavani will be asked to do much of the offensive heavy lifting, and he’s certainly more than capable with 13 international goals in the last two seasons. Diego Godin is one of the better defenders in this tournament and Maxi Pereira brings more than 100 caps to the squad. Diego Rolan is the x-factor for Uruguay, as he has the potential to have a breakout performance at some point. It certainly won’t be easy for Uruguay to repeat with a couple of key guys missing, but there are still enough pieces in place to make an honest run at a title defense.
Uruguay knows it has to win this match outright with bigger fish to fry coming up. Uruguay can’t afford to play around in this match and it’s critical a fast start takes place. Jamaica just doesn’t have talent or firepower to keep up with Uruguay over the course of the match.
I like Uruguay to win by at least two goals.
