Mexico and France play their third match of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Wednesday afternoon.

Mexico is coming off a 2-1 loss to England and needs a win here to have any shot of advancing. Mexico controlled the ball just 40 percent of the match and allowed 23 shots overall, 10 of which were on target. The good news for Mexico is that despite being outplayed throughout the match, it did manage 20 shots and seven shots on goal in limited time. Still, Mexico enters this match with just one point and hasn’t gotten much offense in either contest, as Fabiola Ibarra and Veronica Perez are the only players to find the net. Mexico has relied way too much on the defensive end and has been very passive at times. Goalie Cecilia Santiago has played well with nine saves, but she and Mexico’s defense eventually caves in, as all three goals given up have come in the second half.

2015 FIFA Women's World Cup: Mexico vs. France Pick, Odds, Prediction - 6/17/15

France is coming off a 2-0 loss to Colombia in which was one of the biggest upsets in women’s soccer ever. France controlled the ball 60 percent of the time and got six shots on target, which has to be the most frustrating part of the loss. That’s been the story of the tournament so far for France, as its dominated possession, has 37 shots overall and 10 shots on goal, but just one goal. Eugenie Le Sommer has scored her country’s lone goal, which was assisted by Gaëtane Thiney. France’s defense has been quite impressive, limiting opportunities and allowing just six shots overall. As long as France continues to play hard, shots eventually have to find the net, as it’s just a matter of time before the tide starts to turn for this talented team.

Mexico has played the best it's going to play at this point, as there's just not enough talent to turn things around. However, France is eventually going to find success on the offensive end, which is really all that needs to happen to remove that nasty taste in its mouth.

Still, I thinkFrance is once again getting a little too much respect, which is why I'm taking Mexico and the free goals.
