Australia and Brazil meet Sunday afternoon in the round of 16 in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Australia beat Nigeria and forced a draw against Sweden to get to this point. Australia has shown its athleticism at both ends of the field and done a great job of finding the net on the few shots its found. Australia has 11 shots on target in three matches and has scored four goals. Lisa De Vanna and Kyah Simon have combined for all four goals, while Laura Alleway has an assist and four shot attempts. Australia will enter this match confident given the way its played against quality teams and what it did back in 2011. Michelle Heyman also has yet to have that breakout game for her country. The concern with Australia is that it doesn’t do a great job of controlling the ball and can be pushed around a bit when a team wants to play physical.

2015 FIFA Women's World Cup: Australia vs. Brazil Pick, Odds, Prediction - 6/21/15

Brazil won all three of its matches to crush group E. Brazil has dominated with a terrific defense that has yet to allow a goal and has given up just three shots on target all tournament. Brazil has allowed 19 shots overall, but goalie Luciana hasn’t had to work much at all. Offensively, Brazil has taken its time, controlled the ball for much of the match and worked hard to get quality looks on target. That’s why Brazil has 15 shots on goal out of its 47 shot attempts overall. Andressa Alves, Formiga, Marta and Raquel Fernandes are the four players who have found the back of the net for Brazil. Simply put, Brazil has been the most consistent team this tournament so far and has yet to be really tested.

This is going to be a fun match to watch, as I really like the way Australia plays, but Brazil is a whole different animal. Australia must take advantage of its opportunities if it has a shot to pull off the upset.

While I like Australia and think it's capable of pulling an upset, Brazil has given us no reason to fade. Brazil has been one of the more consistent teams this tournament and the small line makes it the play.
