Germany and England play Saturday afternoon in the third place game of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Germany is coming off a 2-0 loss to the United States but looks to end the tournament on a positive note. Germany has been one of the more aggressive offensive teams in the tournament, scoring 20 goals overall and producing 19 shots on target in its last three matches. Celia Sasic and Anja Mittag have combined for 11 goals, Lena Petermann has two goals and an assist, while Lena Goessling has three assists. Defensively, Germany has allowed 12 shots on target in its last three matches, and Nadine Angerer has come away with 12 saves and has yet allow a first half goal. Germany is going to look to push the pace and has proven it has more than enough playmakers to find the back of the net. Germany just can’t let a frustrating game against the U.S. ruin its confidence.

2015 FIFA Women's World Cup: Germany vs. England Pick, Odds, Prediction - 7/4/15

England is coming off a 2-1 loss to Japan but would love a shot at some women’s FIFA success. England is more of a defensive team that wants to control the pace, as it’s allowed just 17 shots on target in its last four matches. England has blocked nine shots in its last three matches, and Karen Bardsley has come away with 16 saves. Offensively, England has 14 shots on target in its last four matches and has scored on seven of those shots. Karen Carney and Lucy Bronze have combined for four goals, Fara Williams has two goals and two assists, and Jodie Taylor has an assist and four shot attempts. England has proven that it can score when given the chance, but it must be a little more aggressive in this match. After all, England has won the possession arrow just twice in its six matches this tournament.

This is an interesting match, as you have to wonder just how bad Germany wants this, especially after blowing some chances in the game against the U.S. I think England has more to play for in this match and is a little more hungrier than a team that’s already won two World Cup titles.

Still, when it’s said and done, Germany is the better team of the two and should win if it comes out motivated.
