As with all tournaments in world soccer we will cover every game here at Sportschatplace.com, we will also do a preview of each team and their chances in the tournament as a whole, starting with joint host nation Canada.
Coach: Benito Floro
Captain: Julian De Guzman ( Ottawa Fury)
Star Man: Tosaint Ricketts (Hapoel Haifa)
Group: B - Costa Rica, Canada, El Salvador & Jamaica
A tough group for host nation Canda with the highly fancied Costa Rica favourites to top the group. Captain Julian De Guzman can break the all time Candian caps record if Canda make it out of the group here as he is just four from the top of the appearances table. Canada will be looking to Ricketts and the inegimatic Simeon Jackson to provide the spark up front to a team that comes into the tournament in strong form having won three in a row and with home advantage. Canada just had an overload of soccer with the womens World Cup being hosted there over the last month. America came away with the gold in that tournament and the men's team could do similar here in the Gold Cup. Canada have a really tough group to get through here with Jamaica showing noticable improvement over recent years and El Salvador always providing a very stern defence to try to break down.
I think Canda should just about have enough to make the last eight as a second place team or one of the top two third placed finishers. Canada will be hoping to pull off a shock in the tournament but I think they may lack the quality to go any further than the last eight.
