The first game of the Scottish Premier League will see Champions Celtic take on Ross County at Celtic Park. Celtic come into this game having already played three competitive game in the Champions League qualifiers and therefore should already be at an advantage against a Ross County side who will be looking to stay in the Premier Division for a fifth year in a row. Celtic will be missing summer signing Ciftci, signed from Dundee United last season, as he serves the first of a six game domestic ban which carries over from last season, his place up front should be taken by Commons or Griffiths with the former more likely to get the start in my opinion. Celtic manager Ronnie Delia will be looking to the midweek game with Qarabag as the must win game and therefore I think that he may rest some key players in this fixture. Boyata has been a stand out performer for Celtic so far and I would think that the manager may leave the young center half out of his side on Saturday.
Ross County come into this game after a middling pre season but manager Jim Mc Intyre is happy with how things are going with his side and he was happy to get through pre season without any significant injuries. This is a vastly different squad to the one that finished in tenth place last season but McIntyre will still be looking to the front pairing of Boyce and Curran to provide the goals needed to firstly survive and secondly compete. Ross County are 16/1 underdogs tomorrow in the opening game of the league and that in itself tells you the mammoth job ahead of them before they take on the Champions at Celtic Park.
But there is an outside chances that Celtic are distracted by the Champions League fixture next week. Celtic need Champions League football and even if they lost this game it wouldnt be the worst thing in the world, Celtic are going to win the Scottish League anyway, because of the lack of competition they will coast through the season and finish top of the pile in May. That is a certainty but what is not certain is that they go out and steam roll Ross County on Saturday. This could be one of those rare occasions to take Celtic on in the league. I'm going to take Ross County to hold Celtic until halftime here at 9/5 the draw at half time looks a solid bet for me and one I will be taking.
