Without doubt the game of the weekend in the Barclays Premier League will be Manchester City against Chelsea as the last two Champions of the league meet at the Ethiad Stadium on Super Sunday. Manchester City started the season with an impressive win over West Brom on Monday night, David Villa, Ya Ya Toure and captain Vincent Kompany got the goals but what was impressive for City was the performance of both William Bony and Raheem Sterling who were excellent the latter on his competitive debut. Bony is filling in for the brilliant Sergio Aguero who got half an hour Monday but isnt 100% and is unlikely to start on Sunday as the entire season is more important than one game, as said by the man himself. Manchester City looked likely to sack Manuel Pelligrini at the end of last season but they flip flopped on the decision and it has looked like a smart move as City have looked sharp in pre season and look likely to again be at the business end of the Premier League and have bought players capable of moving them to the next level in their pursuit of the Champions League.
On the other side on Sunday will be the current Champions Chelsea and their enigmatic manager Jose Mourhino who as always attracted the headlines rather than his team following his banning of a team doctor from the side line for Chelsea games. Mourhino is a master of the media distraction, his team underperformed against Swansea and only came away with a draw in a home game they would have expected to win but rather than the media talking about that they are fixated on Mourhino. This is excellent work from the manager taking the pressure off his side but they face a huge task on Sunday away from home to the previous Champions who started the season well and look strong right now. Chelsea will be without the suspended Thibaut Courtois who was sent off last weekend but they have a ready made replacement in former stoke goalkeeper Begovich. Chelsea are going to be full strength with the exception of their goalkeeper as Diego Costa , Eden Hazard will lead the way for the Blues offensively. Hazard was terrific last season and deservedly won player of the year in the league, Diego Costa scored over twenty goals for Chelsea in his first season if he can repeat that form Chelsea are going to be very hard to stop.
Mourhino is a master at neutralising teams tactically and I think that Chelsea will go to the Ethiad and play for a draw, it is what Mourhino is famous for, win home games and dont lose away games and it is a philosophy that has won him leagues in every country he has managed in. This truly is a game of the heavyweights in the league and while many would think that games between the top sides should be the best games in the league they are quite often a let down. Mostly because both teams set up too defensively and neither try to win the game rather they just focus on not losing. I'm taking the draw here in the first meeting of the heavyweights, both games between the two finished 1-1 last season and that correct score may be a tempter for those looking for a bigger odds bet.
