Manchester United travel to St Mary's to take on Southampton on Sunday with United looking to bounce back after a surprising midweek loss to PSV in the Champions League. Louis Van Gaal's side played very well midweek but they came away with a loss that was more than a little unlucky. Luke Shaw suffered a terrible leg break on the night and there is no doubt that the young englishman's injury probably had an impact on how United finished the game. With Memphis scoring against his old club though we have yet more evidence of how this new look Manchester United are going to play going forward. Anthony Martial was excellent through the center and the young french man gives United another dimension going forward with his pace a serious addition. Mata, Depay , Martial will be causing problems for lots of sides this season and with Wayne Rooney probably due to take his place on the bench on Sunday this is a team that is only going to get stronger over the coming weeks. We will see how the squad deals with the pressure's of Champions League football over the coming weeks but given the experien involved in this squad I dont think it will be an issue.
Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is trying to find a balance for his side as they struggled last time out offensively. Tadic, Pelle and Ward Prowse struggled last time out to break down a resolute West Brom side and they face an even bigger taks here against a Manchester United defence that is among the best in the league this season. Saint Mary's crowd though will bring a terrific atmosphere to this game and Southampton have put in some great performances against Manchester United over the years, always seeming to raise their game for the occasion in recent years with the Saints having lost just one of the last four meetings between the teams.
This should be a great game, we have two teams that like to play with the ball on the ground, United have been working hard all season to get the right balance in their side an Martial does seem to bring with him an air of optimism, United fans are again looking forward to having a team that thrills with goals and fine attacking displays. Southampton under Koeman have always played really good football and I dont expect that to change here, in what should be an open game I am going for the overs. We are getting some value because of the recent low scoring games both teams have been involved in but from my reading of this one I think there will be lots of chances and at least three goals.
