Qualifying for the 2018 World Cup will begin in South America on Thursday as we have the first fixtures of the group phase. Colombia will host Peru , the third time the two teams have met in the last six months. Paired together in the Copa America group they played out a 0-0 draw and Peru actually advanced to the semi final stage only losing out 2-1 to eventual winners Chile. In the thrid/fourth place playoff Peru beat Paraguay 2-0. Peru have a solid team that are well coached, good defensively and in Far Fan, Guerrero and Pizarro they have the quality up front to finish chances they create.
Colombia are one of the most talented squads in International football but they struggled in the Copa America and couldnt quite find their scoring boots going out on penalties to Argentina. Colombia are captained by Falcao and have some exceptional young players in their squad with Bacca and Quadrado two of the most exciting players in the world right now. Jackson Martinez has struggled to get a start for his country and after his big money move to Atletico Madrid he will be hoping to get more starts for the national side as Falcao continues to struggle to get back to his best.
This is a really well balanced game and while Colombia are favourites due to home advantage I think this game should be far closer to a coinflip than it is currently being priced up. I am going to take Peru +1 on the handicap, at worst I think we finish with a push here as I dont see Colombia beating Peru by more than 1 goal. Peru are a tough team to beat as previously mentioned and I think that they could well leave Colombia with a point in this game.
