Valencia look to get their first home win of the Champions League group phase when they take on Begian side Gent at the Mestalla. This is a solid Valencia team with former Manchester City striker Negredo up front alongside Piatta and Alcacaer, but for some reason Valencia are struggling to score goals with only six in their eight League games this season. Valencia managed to score more in the Champions League than in league averaging two goals a game in the Champions League so far this season. Valencia come into this game as favourites but probably not as big a favourites as maybe they would be under normal circumstances.
Gent look like a solid team but are going to struggle against these bigger teams with much bigger squad depth. It's a learning processand this is the first time Gent have been in the Champions League since 2010 when they were knocked out in the qualifying rounds so this is the first time that Gent have made it to the Group phase of the competition. Earning their first point with a draw against Lyon was a huge result (they finished the game with 9 men as well and were reduced to 10 before half time) and if Gent can stay competitive against teams like Valencia that will be a huge accomplishment. Players to look out for on the Belgian side Matton, Kums and Depoitre the latter two have twelve goals between them in the Belgian league this season and Matton was impressive against Zenit last time out.
To be honest I havent seen enough of Gent to have a big say on this game. What I have seen of them has impressed me they put in good perfromances in their two games so far but the Mestalla can be a very intimidating crowd and if Valencia get on top early this game could get out of hands for the minnows quickly. I'm going to take the draw at half time though on a min bet as Gent look well organised and I think they can stifle a struggling Valencia for at least an hour.
