League Cup action on Tuesday will see Championship side Sheffield Wednesday host a red hot Arsenal at Hillsborough. Wednesday themselves though come into this game in great form, eight games unbeaten and having won five of their last seven. In addition Sheffield Wednesday have only lost one game at home this season and that was to high flying Middlesbrough. Wednesday have a solid team that pay together as a unit, there is no exceptional goalscorer in their ranks and the goals have come from everywhere this season. Lewis McGugan scored the winner in the last round away to a Newcastle team that has been struggling all season. This is a very different proposition for Wednesday as they face the most inform team in the Premier League in Arsenal who have won five of their last six league games and just handed Bayern Munich their first loss of the season last week.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will rotate his squad as he always does for the league cup. Out will probablyy go Ozil, Cech, Koscielny and Walcott. In should come Giroud, Ospina, Chambers and Mertesecker. The Gunners are among the best teams in the country and popssibly Europe but squad rotation is so important to keeping things fresh that this cup is a good way for Wenger to allow fringe players to get game time. Campbell, Flamini and Arteta will also probably start and while this is a second string side they are still a very talented team.
League Cup ties are always difficult to handicap as we're never sure of the team the big boys are going to put out until just before kick off. I think that given the two teams current position I like Sheffield Wednesday's chances of giving Arsenal's second string a good game here. I am going to take the draw as the price is big and considering that this is going to be in Hillsborough where we are more than likely guaranteed a full house and an excellent atmosphere I am taking the draw. This should be a really good game in my opinion but Arsenal's strength off the bench could tell if this one goes to extra time.
