One of the glamour friendlies of the games on friday will see Spain host England in Alicante with the Spanish as heavy favourites for the win. Spain boss Del Bosque has an abundance of talent to draw on and with Thiago, Busquets, Iniesta, Mata, Fabregas and Cazorla available to him he has a tough task of picking just four or five midfielders to start. Diego Costa should lead the line but expect both Morata and Alcacer to get some game time for the Spanish as they look to win their seventh game in a row. Spain qualified comfortably in the end but had started the qualifying campaign with a worrying loss. This is a serious team with expectations to go all the way next summer at Euro2016 and it would take a brave man to bet against them making it three European Championships in a row.
England manager Roy Hodgson orchestrated a perfect qualifying campaign with his side winning every game and while the press may not like the way they played in every game they were effective. What Roy has been willing to do is give form players games, something previous managers were often guilty of overlooking. Jamie Vardy, John-joe Shelvey and Alli are all prime examples of the new open door policy that England have been employing. I hope it continues to the main tournament and maybe just maybe we will see an improvement in Englands fortunes at these big events. The captain and talisman Wayne Rooney is still the go to guy but with Raheem Sterling, Kane, Vardy, Alli and Barkley there is a support cast that create actual excitement and hope. This is a young team that is going in the right direction.
While I think Spain may just prove too strong and experienced in the end I think England do well in this game and I am going to take England +0.5 in the first half handicap. I expect England to field a strong starting eleven and make it to the break at least level. As with all friendlies just a min bet here.
