Colombia host Argentina on Tuesday with both teams in need of a win already in their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. Colombia come into the game with a 1-1-1 record having won their opening game at home to Peru but then dropping points in a loss against Uruguay and a draw with Copa America champions Chile. Colombia were somewhat lucky to get a draw in Chile after struggling for long periods in the game and look a little disjointed at the moment. Colombia have no fluidity to their play and everything goes through Real Madrid star James Rodriguez who did net the equaliser against Chile. With Falcao out of form Colombia have turned to both Bacca (Milan) and Jackson Martinez (Atletico Madrid ) to lead the line but neither have taken on the role and made it their own. This is a tough game for Colombia and I think they may be best served by going with the experience of Falcao but we'll see what Jose Pekerman goes with.
Argentina are in desperate need of a win, having lost their opening qualifying game to Equador they have now back to back draws with Paraguay and Brazil. On Saturday though they were by far the better team against Brazil but they failed to take their chances. Lavezzi and Higuain are still working on their partnership up front but they did combine for the goal at the weekend with Angel Di Maria providing a consistant threat throughout the game. This is a talented Argentina side but obviously they are missing both Messi and Aguero two of the best players in the world and impossible to replace. With that said this is a team that looks to capable of beating anyone on their day even without the Barcelona and Manchester City stars.
While I took Brazil at the weekend outright against Argetina I was impressed by how the Argentines played and I am now going to take Argentina on the handicap here. I am also thinking that Argentina look the best bet on the outright as well but given that Colombia are strong defensively I am just going to take Argentina with the goals head start. I think more likely than not this one ends a draw and probably a low scoring one.
