Can Chelsea and Jose Mourhino continue their recovery when they travel to take on Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League? Chelsea laboured to a 1-0 win over Norwich at the weekend but the most important thing about the game was the result. Chelsea got a win that took them up to fifteenth in the league table and just ten points off fifth in the league table. There is no doubt with the squad that Chelsea have that they can close the gap on those above them but they simply must put together some momentum and some wins. Jose Mourhino will look to Diego Costa, Fabregas, Hazard and Willian to get the result here but this wont be as easy a game as the bookmakers are making out. While Maccabi are yet to register a point in the group they caused some real problems for Chelsea in the first leg and could cause more trouble here for a defence that has struggled all season.
Maccabi will come into this game knowing that they can not qualify for the knockout stages and I think they will have a freedom to play here. Former Chelsea center half Ben Haim will be a key figure for the home side and will be hoping he can keep tabs on Diego Costa and Hazard. Its a tough ask for Maccabi but like I mentioned previously they did cause Chelsea some problems in the first game in London. Zahavi has ten goals in eleven games this season and will be a key man offensively for Maccabi, can he get on the scoresheet here? Maccabi have some good young players (Peretz) and pace on the counter attack.
Chelsea are deserved favourites but at 2/5? Sorry but I dont have that much faith in a team that has won just two of their last seven and both of those were at home in Stamford Bridge. I'm going to take the draw at halftime here for a min bet, I think Chelsea will probably squeeze out a victory but this could be a nervy night for blues fans.
