The first of the League Cup semi finals comes from the Britannia Stadium on Tuesday as Stoke City host Liverpool in the first leg of the two leg semi final. Liverpool come into this game off the back off a terrible performance against West Ham where the reds were outplayed, out fought and out thought. Jurgen Klopp was desolate after the game as he conceded the fact that his team just didnt play well enough. Liverpool lack a cutting edge up front as Chrisitan Benteke still looks a littel short of fitness and Couthino, Firminho and Henderson have not been chipping in with goals lately. Liverpool are struggling to maintain any sort of form and therefore are tough to trust week to week, there is talent throughout the squad but I think that in this game in particular they are a dodgy bet.
Stoke CIty come into this game off a defeat to West Brom, a game where they dominated possession but probably cost themselves the game when losing a man with twenty to go. Affelay, Bojan, Arnautovic, Shaqiri and Diouf have been terrific this season and Mark Hughes side have been one of the most exciting teams in the league to watch. Bojan in particular has been superb all season and is forming a great partnership with Arnautovic who has been banging in the goals with seven already this season, his best goals return since his Fc Twente days. If the Potters can continue their dominance at home they could have one foot in the final.
I have to take Stoke here, I can sort of understand the bookmakers making Liverpool favourites to win the tie over two legs but not here in the Britannia where Stoke have won five of their last six games. This is a Stoke team that deserves to be favourites here so getting them as underdogs is a major plus for us. Take Stoke City to get the win.
