Action from Ligue 1 on Friday night will see Lille travel to the Stade Velodrome to take on Marseille with just five points seperating the sides. Lille come into this game off the back of a good win in the cup as they beat Bordeaux 5-1. Lille have a strong defence though and that is the basis of their success this season. With not many goals in the team, they are reliant on runners from midfield provided by Benzia, Tallo, Boufal and Beauthac. This is a side that wont concede many goals though and with seven draws away from home they are comfortable with the way they play. Picking up ten points in eleven games on the road and only conceding nine goals.
Marseille are tough to handicap. They can be brilliant or brutal, quite often in the same game. Batshuayi is having a career year with twelve goals already this campaign he is the only real contender for top scorer other than Zlatan. But Batshuayi is like an individual version of the team as he is wildly inconsistant. Marseille on paper have the stronger side here with Diarra, Alessandrini and the aforementioned Batshuayi but I think this is a game that is going to be frustrating for Marseille as they look to break down the second best defence in the league.
I'm going to take the draw here. Everything about this game says draw to me. Probably a 1-1 game but I wouldnt be surprised with a 0-0 either. Of course Marseille could nick it at home in front of a passionaate home crowd but lille have been tremendous on the road this season and I think they can come away from this one with a point.
