One of the games of the midweek fixtures will see Arsenal host Southampton at the Emirates on Tuesday night. Arsenal just about got past Championship side Burnley on Saturday with Alexis Sanchez on his first start back from injury scoring the winner. The return of Alexis Sanchez is going to be key to Arsenal's Premier League hopes the Chilean was phenomenal at the start of the season and if Ozil and Sanchez can continue their solid form then I think Arsenal can go all the way here. Giroud, Walcott and Chamberlain will need to step up but Arsenal will need to get wins at home against tough teams like this one against Southampton. Arsene Wenger has chosen not to strenghten up front or defensively during the transfer window, this could be a mistake. Arsenal have won seven of their last nine home games and will look to make it eight in ten here.
Southampton come into this game having won three games in a row for the first time in the League this season. Ronald Koeman's side hammered Arsenal 4-0 at Saint Mary's on Boxing Day. The key to the game was Shane Long's pace as Long was a consistant threat the entire game and if the Saints can get the same joy with Long, Tadic and Mane then I think they can give Arsenal a really good game here on Tuesday. Southampton have a quality side and they wont be afraid of going after Arsenal here on the counter attack. It is a tough ask though for the Saints to go to the Emirates and win, with that said Southampton's last win was away to Manchester United also not the easiest place to go.
This one is tough to call. I think Arsenal should win it and are deserved favourites for the game but I believe that Southampton will be able to get themselves on the scoresheet here, this is going to be a tough game for Arsenal and could be a season deciding one for the Gunners if they fail to get the win they crave. I'm going to take both teams to score here as I think this is nailed on.
