A great match up on Saturday at the Britannia Stadium as Stoke City get ready to host Southampton with just two points seperating the teams in the league. Stoke City under Mark Hughes have been up and down this season but there have been more ups than downs and the quality players brought in last summer have made a real difference. Shaqiri and Afellay have added both depth and quality to Stoke's midfield, the return to fitness of Bojan and the emergence of Arnautovic who is having a career year have also been key factors in the success of Stoke's season thus far. Stoke have had impressive results at home this season with wins over Manchester City , Manchester United and Chelsea along with taking points off Arsenal and league leaders Leicester City at home.
On the other side we have a Southampton team who looked like making a run for a Champions League spot up but have struggled for consistancy over the last three weeks. Ronald Koeman's side have lost Charlie Austin to injury and Victor Wanyama to suspension. Wanyama is a key figure for the Saints, he protects the back four and breaks up the oppositions' attack from that holding role in midfield. Wanyama's importance to the team cant be under estimated and I think that the Saints are a poorer side when he is missing, in addition Shane Long is struggling with a knock he may not get the start and if he is missing Southampton's attack will be stunted. Pelle has had a poor season and while Tadic has been effective at times he has been in and out of the starting eleven, similar to Southampton's other quality winger Mane.
This one on paper at least is a good match up and it could be tough to seperate these two, but for me at the moment Stoke City look to have a little bit more going for them and I am going to take the potters to get our weekend off to a great start with a home win here at a big price.
