When Atletico Madrid and PSV meet on Tuesday night at the Estadio Vincent Cauldron there will be plenty of nerves in both camps, the tie is finely balanced with the first leg in Holland finishing 0-0. An Away goal for Philip Cocu's side would mean that Atletico Madrid need to win the game and these European fixtures are tough to negotiate. PSV have had a terrific season and played extremely well in the first leg in Eindhoven. PSV limited the chances Atletico had and pretty much neutralised Antoine Greizmann who struggled to get free of the tight marking PSV applied. PSV were excellent in the Group stages with wins over Wolfsburg, Manchester United and Moscow and a 0-0 draw in Old Trafford as well which really ensured their progress to the knockout stages. Cocu has done a great job in setting his team up to be difficult to beat when playing away from home and I think he will relish the opportunity to pit his wits against Diego Simeone one of the top managers across Europe right now. PSV have some terrific attacking players in their squad as well and playing on the counter attack will not bother them as Locadia, Narsingh and De Jong all have the ability to finish chances.
Atletico Madrid have most definitely put together a squad capable of winning the Champions League, when they reached the final a couple of years ago the core of the team is still the same but with Griezmann replacing Diego Costa and Carrasco replacing Turan in midfield. Simeone's ability to get the best out of his players is evident week in week out as Atletico compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid at about a quarter the revenue costs. Atletico are a quality side with Captain Deigo Godin leading by example from the back , Godin is a phenomenal and ageless defender. The only center half that I have seen who consistantly gets the better of both Messi and Ronaldo which is an astonishing achievement. Atletico will look to Godin to be a rock at the back and then Greizmann, Carraco, Vietto and Torres must provide the creativity and goals up front.
The odds are too short here on an Atletico win, at 3/10 there is no value there. This isnt a game I love as I think it is going to be very defensive but I am going to take the unders on a min bet. A 1-0 win is enough for Atletico to go trhough and I think that we could well see that result here at the Vincent Cauldron.
