The game of the week in terms of International match ups with any meaning will see a repeat of the Copa America Final from 2015 when Argentina succumbed to Chile in the final on penalties. Chile come into this game off the back of a bad loss to Uruguay but are two points clear of their rivals Argentina in terms of qualifying with two wins and a draw in their four games to date. Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez is the key man for Chile and everything the attacking midfielder/striker does generally makes Chile tick. Arturo Vidal is another key component and the Bayern Munich midfielder has an almost telepathic understanding with Sanchez as the two have played together for most of their international careers. Gary Medel will be a key enforcer in the Chile midfield as they look to stop Argentina gettin the space they need for Messi to exploit any weakness in the Chile defence. But to be fair to Chile with the exception of that 3-0 loss to Uruguay this Chile defence has been rock solid and Chile have not lost a home qualifier since losing 2-1 to Argentina back in 2012.
With the best player in the world in Lionel Messi, Argentina are always favourites, in every game they play. But this Argentina side are not heavily reliant on Messi's talents, there is an exceptional bunch of players here with PSG's Di Maria, Juventus Dybala and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero. It says alot about the depths of talent in Argentina's squad that the top scorer acorss all of Europe's top leagues Gonzalo Higuain will have to make do with a spot on the bench. But that is the reality for this Argentina side who will be led by Barcelona midfielder/defender Javier Mascherano who is captain in all but name. Mascherano does the rallying and fortifying in the middle, gives the players the necessary encouragement and leadership and allows Messi to flourish in his role as Captain by allowing Messi to lead by example rather than words. This is as talented an International side as there is in the World but that may not be enough here against a hard working Chile side.
Chile and Argentina are great rivals, they've played alot in recent years and while Argentina have had the upper hand winning three of their last eight meetings in comparison to Chile's one win there have been four draws between the two sides and I fancy the draw again here. Two very talented sides with lots of attacking potential but I have a feeling this is going to be either 0-0 or 1-1. Either way I am taking the draw here.
