With Equador the leaders of the World Cup qualifying group phase they face a tough tacking Paraguay team on Thursday. Equador started the qualifying campaign with a tremendous win in Argentina against the worlds best team and have continued on in fine form with four wins from four thus far. The return of both Manchester United's Antonio Valencia and West Ham's Enner Valencia will add even more strength to an already strong and hard working squad. Former Manchester City striker Calceido has had a great start to this campaign with four goals in four games. Equador look to me to have found a great balance in their squad and even with injuries to important players they have continued to win games. Equador could be the surprise package in this World Cup qualifying campaign and a win here against Paraguay could see them move further clear of the chasing pack with Chile facing Argentina and Colombia traveling to Bolivia.
Paraguay have always been a tough team to beat and this will be no exception here as they travel to Equador with a strong side. Villar, Sants Cruz, Barrios will provide the experience with Iturbe, Gonzalez providing the youthful exuberence. Paraguay have played four games and lost only once away to Peru. A draw with Argentina has proven the defensive capablities of this squad and the team as a whole will be well coached with former River Plate manager Ramon Diaz known for his coaching and work ethic. Paraguay will present a tough test for Equador and this should be a fiesty affair with neither team afraid to put in a tough tackle.
I've looked at this a few times and I am finding it tough to find any value in this one. Equador deserve favouritism being at home and the form they are in. With the two Valencia coming back in to the squad I am going to take Equador to win this one. The odds are prohibitive but the home side should get it done. For those looking for a nit of a novelty bet betting on a red card in the game might be worth a look too. You can watch this one live on Fubo Tv who are providing stream for american residents here.
