D.C. United and Toronto FC square off early Saturday afternoon at the RFK Stadium.
D.C. United looks for another victory after a 1-2-3 start to the regular season. D.C. United is coming off its best victory of the season, which was a 4-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Still, D.C. United is looking for consistency on the offensive end after finding the back of the net just three times in their first five matches. D.C. United hopes it can build on the victory a week ago. Fabián Espíndola leads DC United with three goals, Luciano Acosta has two assists and Chris Rolfe has 10 shots. USA TODAY Sports
Toronto FC continues its lengthy road trip, as it won’t play a home game this season until May 7. Toronto FC has been trying to keep its head above water with a defense that’s allowing an average of one goal per match and just three goals overall in its last three matches. The issue for Toronto FC this season has been it’s a one-man team offensively and has just one player with more than two shots on goal. Sebastian Giovinco leads Toronto with three goals, Will Johnson has two assists and Damien Perquis has three shots. Defensively, Clint Irwin has come away with 21 saves on 27 shots faced. Toronto FC has lost five of its last eight regular season road games.
The last five matches between these two teams have been split down the middle with a 2-2-1 record. The last match between these clubs resulted in a 0-0 draw back in June. Toronto has earned points in three of its last four appearances at RFK Stadium.
These teams know each other well and neither has been able to get the upper hand as of late. When you add the fact Toronto has had success playing on DC United’s home turf, I like the value of a draw in this spot.
