The Line: Colombia +190 / USA +160 -- Over/Under: 2 See the Latest Odds
The United States and Colombia kick off the Copa America Centenario Friday at Levi's Stadium.
The United States hasn’t had much success in Copa America besides a magical run back in 1995 when it finished fourth. USA enters with an experienced team as Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley again will lead the way, but it’s the youth that gives America an intriguing look in this tournament. It’s going to be interesting to see how coach Jurgen Klinsmann plays and trusts his young guns in Christian Pulisic and Darlington Nagbe, guys who can really provide a change of pace for this team. The United States should be eager to bounce back from a disappointing finish in the Gold Cup and knows it has to get off to a fast start if it hopes to advance in this tournament. The US has to get back to being that feisty team that plays hard at both ends.

Colombia is also going to be a motivated bunch after scoring just one goal in last years Copa America. Some would say Colombia is in subpar form, while others will look at the impressive showing in the World Cup. Either way, Colombia is always a threat with James Rodríguez and Carlos Bacca leading the way. Throw Juan Guillermo Cuadrado in the mix, and Colombia has the overall talent to takeover matches and make a serious run to a championship. Colombia is an athletic and youthful team with only four players who are at least 30 years old. When matches get tight and Colombia needs experience to rely on, you have to wonder if leaving guys such as Adrian Ramos, Teofilo Gutierrez and Abel Aguilar off the team will backfire for coach Jose Pekerman.
It’s hard to predict which team is going to show up for both sides, as they both have the potential to be dark horses in this tournament. The United States should come out with a ton of energy and the crowd support will be insane. However, Colombia has the overall better talent from top to bottom.
I’m going to side with the over, as there’s enough talent on both ends to see a few goals in this opening match.
