Costa Rica and Paraguay meet Saturday in the Copa America at the Camping World Stadium.
Costa Rica enters this tournament as a serious candidate to make a deep run as Oscar Ramírez has his team playing very well. However, the concern now with Costa Rica is the fact they’ll be without goalie Keylor Navas due to injury. Arguably the best goalie in the entire tournament, Costa Rica will now be forced to turn to 27-year-old Danny Carvajal. While that’s obviously a big blow to the Ticos hopes of winning this thing, Costa Rica is still led by an offensive killer in Joel Campbell, and they have a lot of experienced veterans who can create in Álvaro Saborío and Bryan Ruiz. Banged up goalie or not, Costa Rica is not a team to overlook this summer.

Paraguay has the potential to be a sneaky dark horse in group A due to a reliable defense and the discipline Ramón Díaz coaches his team. The injury to Nestor Ortigoza will certainly hurt Paraguay on the defensive side and in the penalty. However, Paraguay has a very underrated attacking ability and a guy who has the potential to take over matches in Derlis González. Paraguay is also an experienced club with seven players with more than 20 caps, including captain Paulo da Silva, who will help keep the younger players in check and monitor the game. If Paraguay plays its style of football and frustrates on the defensive end, it has the ability to sneak out of this group and put a scare in a lot of quality teams.
Both teams are missing a key player, which will not only impact this game, but also hurt their chances to make a deep run overall. Still, I like Costa Rica a tad bit more than Paraguay due to the overall offensive attack and the fact it has the best player in this match in Campbell.
I’ll take Costa Rica to win this match.
