Haiti and Peru square off early Saturday night in the Copa America at the CenturyLink Field.

Haiti will play in the Copa America for the first time and does bring a little momentum to the tournament after an impressive showing in the Gold Cup. Haiti is led by one of the better goalies in this tournament in Johnny Placide, and he always gives his team a chance to hang around due to him being so active and coming away with impressive stops. Placide has to play very well for Haiti to have any shot just to win a single match in this tournament. Offensively, Kervens Belfort and Jean-Eudes Maurice will have to be aggressive. Haiti has shown it can hang with quality teams and is going to fight to the very end. The reason many aren’t giving Haiti a chance in this tournament is the lack of offense.

Haiti vs. Peru Copa America Pick, Odds, Prediction - 6/4/16

USA TODAY Sports

Peru is no stranger to Copa America after winning this tournament twice and finishing third last season. Peru is anchored by a strong defense that must continue to show up due to a lack of overall experience. Peru is a very young club overall that got even younger this tournament with Claudio Pizarro and Jefferson Farfan being left off the team. Still, Peru is a team that will go as far as Paolo Guerrero carries them, as he’s an elite playmaker who has been able to consistently find the back of the net. Besides Guerrero, nobody has scored more than two goals for Peru, which has to be a concern. Although if Peru can find a way to win this match, the confidence will build and these young players then become that much scarier.

I hate to jump on the bandwagon with everybody else saying Haiti is outmatched in this tournament… But they’re outmatched in this tournament. Peru has more balance, a better offensive attack and doesn’t put so much pressure on its goalie to get constant stops.

Peru should win this match and make an early push to advance.
